Pingdingshan
In southwest Henan, the mountain city of Pingdingshan is home to 4.7 million residents. A continental monsoon area, Pingdingshan's medium latitudes offer distinct seasons with abundant rainfall and a lengthy snow-free period. With these environmental advantages, this "Flat Peak Mountain's" 7,882 square kilometers include extensive farm and forest areas. "

Pingdingshan's long history dates back to approximately 4000 BC. Important artifacts from the Neolithic Age are found here including relics from the Peiligang, Yangshao and Longshan Cultures. Recorded in the Chinese classics Zuozhuan, Shijing (Book of Poems) and Shiji (Historical Records), Pingdingshan was a Ying territory during the Shang and Zhou dynasties, beginning in 1324 BC. Numerous outstanding historical figures also have connections to this region, from powerful statesmen to revered poets. Among these ancient notables are Confucius, Li Bai, Han Yu and Su Dongpo.

There are many scenic sites in Pingdingshan, including the Fodushan Scenic Area, the Shirenshan Scenic Area, the famed Ruzhou Hot-Springs and the Shimantan National Forest Park. The latter is known as an exquisite natural combination of mountains, forests and lakes. A particularly important cultural site is the Tomb of Su Xun and his two sons, Su Shi and Su Zhe. These three are among the eight eminent literati in the Tang and Song dynasties.

The Shimantan National Forest Park, covering an area of 120 square kilometers, is located in-between Wugang City, Funiushan and the Huang-Huai Plains. Beautiful natural scenes of hills, caves and rock formations characterize this Forest Park.

In the eastern Funiu Mountains, the Shirenshan Scenic Area is celebrated for its natural beauty. This Scenic Area boasts of many geographical features including its steep peaks, intriguing rock formations and rushing waterfalls.

Located in Lushan County, the Fodushan Scenic Area covers 780 hectares and possesses immense natural beauty in the form of green hills and clear waters. Its three primary sites of interest are the Foquan Temple, the Golden Buddha and the Bell of Good Luck.
