Resting on the banks of the Yellow River, Puyang's five counties cover an area of 4,188 square kilometers and are home to 3.5 million residents. A warm monsoon-affected climate features clearly defined seasons, including dry springs and hot rainy summers. Full of history and heritage, Puyang is regarded as one of the birthplaces of the Chinese nation.

Historical figures hailing from this region include the great Machiavellian schemer, Lu Buwei, who played a major role in orchestrating the unification of China. Other citizens of Puyang include Wu Qi, the renowned military strategist and the reformer Shang Yang, who led the charge of transforming China from an aristocracy to a meritocracy.

In Puyang's ancient history, the 6,400-year-old relic, "China's First Dragon," was unearthed in 1987. This valuable discovery earned Puyang the moniker "Hometown of Chinese Dragons" by the Chinese Yanhuang Culture Research Association.

As a petrol-chemical city, Puyang's major resources include rich reserves of high-quality petroleum, natural gas and coal. This industry is the engine that drives Puyang's economy and functions as an important Chinese energy base. Large enterprises operating here include the Zhongyuan Oilfield, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation and Zhongyuan Dahua Group.

Built in March of 1999, the Zhongyuan Green Park encompasses the complementary values of ecological protection and entertainment. As Puyang's largest tourist attraction, the Park devotes its energies towards establishing a simple and natural environment based on its core values of harmonizing man's coexistence with nature.

The mountain came into being in the Cretaceous Period of Mesozoic Era, around 150 to 70 million years ago. The mountain base is mainly granite.

Situated in the Puyang Agriculture Development Zone, Shijin Park is not only the largest flower base in Henan but also a high-tech agricultural sightseeing attraction. In the Park, advanced techniques have been applied to top-grade flamingo flowers, lilies and Gerbera (AKA "Gerber Daisies").

As one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization, Puyang's geographical location was of strategic and political importance since antiquity. Thus, this town inevitably came to house many crucial relics from the Nation's history.
